I made the decision the launch my home-based travel business early 2020. I’ve always wanted to add travel to my income portfolio because, as a businesswoman, I knew that travel was one of those things that would never go away and that there would always be an opportunity for success within the industry. The COVID-19 global pandemic proved that to be correct. Even though I was a brand new travel consultant when the pandemic started, I was still able to launch my business with great results. People still wanted to travel or plan to travel post-pandemic, which meant that I could still grow a viable business in the travel industry even when the world was crumbling around us.
I wanted to share with you a few reasons why you should launch a travel business, even if you are involved with other projects right now. This is something that I believe everyone should have in their back pocket.
1) Exclusive Insider Travel Deals – As a travel professional, you have the opportunity to build relationships with travel suppliers all over the world. I don’t mean you can hop on their email list and see what they have going on for the week, I mean actual relationship. I can actually pick up the phone to reach out to my personal contact over at your favorite hotel or vacation rental company, and get information, tips and travel deals customized just for me and my clients. Many times, exclusive travel deals are made available to travel professionals long before that are made available to the public. This is a huge incentive for people who choose to work with a travel consultant instead of booking on third-party travel websites.
2) The Money – I have to say; of all of the projects that I’ve worked on, the commissions that are made within the travel industry are a lot prettier than most. Each travel supplier has a commission percentage that are made available on booked travel for travel professionals.
Imagine helping a family book a family reunion cruise that costs $15000 and you make 12% of that. It’s amazing for sure, even if you work your travel business part time. Here are a couple more examples:
3) Book Your Own Travel – Now that you have your travel business and direct access to exclusive travel deals, you can absolutely take advantage of them for yourself. To be honest, before I really knew about becoming a travel consultant, this reason was the most attractive to me. I’m like: I’m already booking my own travel, why not get some deals and commissions on it? It seemed like a no-brainer to me.
4) TRAVEL ISN’T GOING ANYWHERE! – This might be the most important reason. Thinking from a business-minded perspective, it’s always important to align with an industry or concept that’s always needed. Travel isn’t going to stop. We’ve seen this during the pandemic. Even with COVID taking over the world, the industry adjusted, rules and precautious were put in place, and even though travel decreased a bit, it never stopped. People were still on the move, so there was still opportunity there for my business to thrive.
